Displaced

In the shadows of progress, we stand,
Uprooted, unheard, from our land.
The elephants trample, the bulldozers roar,
But it’s our cries that they ignore.

Promises made, yet none fulfilled,
Our homes destroyed, our spirits chilled.
From Karuma’s dam to Lubigi’s wetland,
We are scattered, lost, on this forsaken land.

Garbage heaps rise in Kiteezi’s night,
While Rukungiri’s wetlands take our right.
But we are more than numbers, more than debris,
We are human beings, we deserve to be free.

Let there be laws, let justice prevail,
For the displaced, let compassion sail.
In the heart of Uganda, we make our plea,
Let us live, let us be.
